What Is Sublimation ?

Sublimation is a process where a special ink passes through an inkjet printer onto regular paper. Then the printed image is heat transferred onto the substrate. Because the transfers are produced digitally, the sublimation process provides many benefits to companies who need the ability to transfer images onto different surfaces. If the surface receiving the image has a polymer base, a superb photo quality image results. Unlike other transfer methods, the inks, when heated, transfer into the polymer. The inks when transferred produce superb vibrant colors.

In the early days of sublimation, due to the slow speeds of ink jet printers, the process was only of use to provide strike-off's or one-off's. Now, with the massive increase in speed and print quality in the last 2 years, the process is a viable alternative for short to medium production runs, opening up new markets to companies that they never even dreamed possible. For instance we regularly work with companies to provide in-house print solutions, by testing their products to see if they are compatible with the process.

We are currently developing a process for a UK company which produces soft/hard wearing panels for children's indoor playgrounds. Usually these panels were either provided in different solid colors or left white. We worked through the testing phase with them determining that initially the panels they used were not receptive to sublimation. We spoke with their supplier of panels, and modifications were made to the manner and type of coating that was applied producing outstanding results. They can now work with designers and architects to produce full color cost effective themes for playgrounds, opening up a whole new market for them, giving them a major edge over their competitors.

An umbrella company had been asked to produce images onto umbrellas in short-runs using full color, which did not work using present procedures. We tested their material and found it to be compatible with our process. They are now able to produce both strike-off's for sampling and medium sized production runs.

A local company that manufactures huge advertising balloons needed to be able to produce short-run sublimated images onto balloon material. At first the image would not take. After conducting our own research, not only did we find a material that would work but it was cheaper than the original material being used, so the company not only solved a production problem, but he saved money on his raw materials as well.

The list of different products we have worked on is endless, but here are a few: Custom Table Cloths, Wet Suits, Glass, Metal, Leather, Signage, Tables, Wood, Plastic, Veneer, Pool Tables, Marble, Ceiling Tiles, Ceramic, Carpet, Floor Mats, Light Switches, Mouse pads, Suspenders, Snowboards, Banners, Placemats, Blankets, Flags and many many more...........
