The Providor™

Users guide for Epson® 900/980

READ ENTIRE GUIDE BEFORE STARTING!

Check to see if you have all your parts!

  1. If printer is new, or newly refurbed, disregard step 3.

3.) Establish Working condition of Printer:

    1. With the original cartridges in place, perform nozzle check to make sure all nozzles are firing correctly. If you do not get a perfect nozzle check, then perform head cleanings until you get a perfect nozzle check. Please refer to your Epson manual on how to do nozzle checks and head cleanings. If you do not get a perfect nozzle check do not continue with the installation of the Continuous Ink System.

4.) Removal of Cartridges and Lids:

    1. With the printer on, press and hold the paper feed button on the front of your printer for about 5 seconds, this will position the black cartridge for removal. Remove the black cartridge.
    2. Now that the Black cartridge is removed, with the lid almost opened, squeeze the inner black cartridge holder so that the left side dimple comes through the slot, then just squeeze the top of the blue lid and remove as a unit.
    3. Press the paper feed button briefly to move the color cartridge into position.
    4. Remove the color cartridge.
    5. Remove the color cartridge lid in the same manner as the black.
    6. Unplug the printer.

5.) Install the Cartridge set:

    1. While facing printer and with printer cover opened insert the 4 hose connectors, hoses, and Plexiglas bracket, right-to-left through the first opening on the right side of the printer.
    2. Important: do not seat cartridges into printer cartridge holders!!
    3. Next, loop hose connectors back towards right side of printer where you will have your ink bottles set.
    4. Attach Plexiglas to the top of your printer with supplied Velcro tabs. Wipe area first with alcohol swab for better adhesion.

6.) Filling Cartridges with Ink:

    1. Insert bottles in the provided tray and fill bottles with ink and replace lids.
    2. Leaving your cartridges setting loosely in the printer, attach syringe fitting to one of the colored fittings (the fittings are all color coded). Now, pump the syringe four to five times to extract the air from the ink chamber of the cartridge. Clamp the line with hose clamp next to the colored fitting. Disconnect the syringe.
    3. Attach color-coded fitting to appropriate ink color, and then release clamp to allow ink to flow into the cartridge.
    4. Repeat until all cartridges are filled with ink.

Note: if you seated the carts prematurely, didn't get enough ink into the carts using the vacuum method, or, just prefer to do it this way, here is the fail safe.

With cartridge assembly firmly in place with hold down installed, take check valve assembly off of syringe, screw 22g 1" needle on. Pierce chamber on cartridge through black rubber plug, push in needle no more than half way (never remove tape from top of cartridge covering plug as it holds plug in place for this purpose). Draw back slowly on plunger until you start to get a steady stream of ink into syringe.

This method can also be used to re-charge the system if integrity is lost due to running out of ink in bottle, or any reason air might get into line.

7.) Install Cartridges into Printer

  1. Seat both cartridges into printer.
  2. Insert cartridge hold down as pictured.
  3. Insert switch actuators into front slots on cartridge (this fools the printer into thinking the lids are still on).
  4. Turn on printer and allow to warm up.
  5. Perform nozzle check, and do head cleanings until nozzle checks are perfect.

8.) Install small white plastic props onto the posts molded into printer housing under lid to prop lid up to insure hoses don't bind.

Congratulations you have successfully installed the JetBlaster continuous ink flow system!!

Make sure that you always have a minimum of ˝" of ink in the bottles at all times. Just remove bottle caps and refill at any time.

Note: To reset out of ink switches when replace ink lights illuminate. Hold the paper feed button for 3 seconds until the black cartridge is in position, do not remove ink cartridges, squeeze and lift out switch actuator and replace, then push the paper feed button again, to move to the color cartridge to position, lift and replace the switch actuator, then push the paper feed button again. Now your Epson printer thinks it has brand new cartridges. Perform a nozzle check, run head cleaning cycle if needed and continue printing when perfect.
