The Colortec refill kit for the Epson 980 allows you to refill your cartridges without interrupting your flow of ink, eliminating the need for more expensive continuous flow systems for short run applications. This system can be refilled many times before degeneration of cartridge foam creates a problem which is easily detected as ink starvation. It is suggested to start with full cartridges to insure initial success and avoiding the more difficult task of the initial charging of a blank cartridge

1. Remove and dispose of spent cartridges.

2. Note that the cartridge hold down assembly is of two parts, the upper light colored hold down and the darker colored lower piece that lifts the cartridge up when the upper hold down is raised. See Image #1 This is true of both black & CMY cartridge units

3. Start first with the Black cartridge unit. With the upper hold down raised locate the tab on the lower lift that is positioned in a slot on the cartridge housing. Gently squeeze the right & left vertical pieces of the lower lift at the level the tab is and release tab from slot. Swing lower assembly up away from slot. See Image #2

4. Squeeze the bottom of the two upright of the upper hold down and remove the entire assembly. from the cartridge housing. See Image #3

5. separate the two pieces of the hold down assembly. See Image #4

6. Replace the upper hold down by reversing step #4 . See Image #3

7. Repeat steps 1-6 on Color cartridge housing and hold down assembly.

8. Install new cartridges full of ink removing tape strip from top of cartridge to expose vent channels according to manufacturer directions.

9. Utilize ink in cartridges until levels reach near empty but NOT totally empty.

10 There are two types of cartridges that this system supports. They both have color and black cartridges. One is clear colored with 2 ports and vent channels. The other is beige and has one port and vent channels.

11. A syringe and needle are provided for each color with the Colortec Refill system. The sequence of ink chambers in the color cartridge is from left to right: Cyan- Magenta- Yellow. Be certain to fill in this sequence. It is best to load the syringe with 10-15 cc’s of C,M or Y. The black load is 15cc’s

a. Clear cartridge instructions: locate and puncture the two port holes on top of the cartridge. See Image #5 Insert the syringe needle into center port as far as it will go. See Image #6 SLOWLY push plunger untill ink bubbles out of the rear port. Clean up residue ink. Tape the holes leaving the vent channels exposed. Close the hold down and your ready to print! You may not use all of the ink on every color since consumption may vary. Return any unused ink to the corresponding bottle of bulk ink.
